Band Blog
It's been a couple of days since the last edition of the Berlin blog but it's been heads down from GoodBooks recently in the shape of a couple of new tunes, a 30 minute mix for the best radio station in Germany called Fritz Radio, a tad too much alcohol consumption and a shedload of table football.

Anna's gone home now, which is a bit strange. It's been awesome having her here, even if she did keep me up til 6bloody30am yesterday morning discussing life, goodbooks and life. GoodTimes though.

There is a bar somewhere in the East where there is a ping pong table, and all the punters do every night is play round the table, in fair Berlin where we lay our scene.

Berlin days 5, 6 and 7 . . .
don't judge us for lateness.
so where did i leave off? saturday with the man with female ankles, right.
Day 5 - today was not hugely eventful for the majority of us. all nursing hangovers exept for our noble sticksman who seized the day and went out to experience the city again. i think he went to the guggenheim museum. jp and max did a bit more of the remix which was beginning to sound great. in the evening we decided to be quite civilised as we had tickets to go to a Schumann concert at the Philharmonie. it was a very spectacular concert hall and the orchestra were extremely talented, as were the choir and when one of the soloists (the soprano lady) hit a high C we were all rather impressed. having woken up for the last few days with headaches and dodgy stomachs, we took the decision to go back to the flat and watch a dvd, which was fun, Knocked Up is hilarious!
Day 6 - again, mainly a working day. jp and max finished off the remix at last and it really does sound great, just hope the people like it enough to use it! that evening we made plans to go to Schöneberg (sic.) which is only a 15 minute walk from the flat. so off we went to the bar which had been David Bowie's bar of choice when he was residing in Berlin during the 70s (making the best album of his career, Low). it was a nice little place, but not quite what we had expected. we ended up having a couple of pints of Erdinger and a slice of Gateau each . . not what you'd usually expect from a bar at midnight! JP informs me that, in the toilet, "Bowie 77" had been scratched in to the door . . i wonder if it was him. on our way back from Bowie's bar we came across a place simply called 157. it looked a bit like a squat but annagement assured me she'd read about it in her guide book and said we should go in. far from being the bustling rave bar that the book had suggested, there were simply 3 people sat at the bar in this dark room, with a table football table at the far end . . it was competition time! although that was shortly over after max won for the 5th time. we all started to realise we were a bit drunker than we originally thought and, after a quick stop at the local kebab house, made our way to bed.
Day 7 - Tourism day! at 2 o'clock the troops set off to see some sights. we took a nice walk to Siegessaeuld which is a really rather large column at the end of the road leading to the Brandenburg Gate. apparently Hitler moved it from outside the Reichstag in 1938. not on his own obviously. Siegessaeuld had 285 steps to reach the top viewing platform which is just below a golden statue that perches on the top. these 285 steps are withing the column, a spiral staircase. GoodBooks aren't very fit at all . . my calves hurt no end after about 100 steps! but it was well worth it, the view was incredible. although it was very very high which i wasn't sure i liked. neither was Leo. once we'd descended the stairs we made our way down the long road to the Brandenburg. we saw two old ladies "running" . . we were walking faster than they were moving. it was like they were just hopping on the spot! don't think they liked our impression of them that much though. before going in to the Reichstag we needed to refuel so set off for the most european cafe we could think of. Starbucks. no matter how cheap Berlin is, it seems Starbucks don't change their prices for nobody! but it was tasty. The Reichstag is the home of German Parliament and has a rather impressive glass dome on the top of it designed by Norman Foster (of the Gherkin fame). we waited for 10 minutes to go through airport style security machines. i always beep. always. once we eventually reached the top of the building, in a super speedy lift, we started our walk up the spiral slope that lives within the dome. the views were incredible and by now it was dark outside which made it even better. at the top there is a great sloped bench thing which we decided to try out. it was very comfortable, so comfortable that max fell asleep on it. and this dome had no roof, he was asleep outside. we tried to leave him there but officials made us take him away. spoil sports. In the evening we'd been invited to dinner with some good friends and family of Leo's. it was a fantastic evening with great food, great company, great beer and an impromptu acoustic set of sorts from ourselves. it went down ok!
and so on to today, which hasn't really started yet. hope you're all well, wherever you may be.
Kamp GoodBooks send their love.
