I enjoy the juxtaposition of a bouncy pop melody, with sweetly sad lyrics. It doesn’t seem glib or offensive to me. As there are so few veterans left alive, the conflict will fall into myth, and things like this keep it alive. Perhaps if it was phrased as a commentary on the total experience of the first world war, that may have been innappropriate. I find the lyrics quite touching. Surely it is positive to remind people of this subject the ‘war to end all wars’.
On the subject of BSP, I agree A LOT. Where is the third album? I saw them live last year, and assumed an album would be soon to follow. They were my favourite band in 2002/3, but I’ve forgotten them a little now, since they’ve been quiet for so long.
